The Future of Training in the Digital World

Hello REDD readers! Today, industry expert Michael Hui joined us for a lively discussion on the dynamic world of digital skills training. He sheds light on how technology is reshaping how we learn and adapt in our rapidly changing world.

From Floppy Disks to Real-Time Updates

Michael began by highlighting a significant shift in the industry: the transition from traditional software packages on floppy disks and CDs to the continuous updates we see today. In the past, new software versions were released every 12 to 18 months, with occasional patches to fix broken elements. Consequently, training courses followed a predictable rhythm, updating only with each new software version. However, in today’s world, software updates drop weekly, if not more frequently, making it increasingly challenging to stay up-to-date.

The constant evolution we witness underscores the paramount importance of authorised content. It serves as a key element in effortlessly adapting to rapid changes. As Michael aptly pointed out, “Having that authorised content just simplifies everything.”

Simulated Environments: A New Way to Learn

When asked about the inclusion of student or trial licenses in courses, Michael explained that their training is designed more for enterprise rollout rather than end-users. Rather than issuing live licenses, they opt for simulated lab environments. These labs offer students a chance to interact with the software in a controlled setting, giving them the freedom to experiment, overcome challenges, and undergo evaluations without the risks associated with live environments.

By using this technique, students can gain practical experience and trainers can design scenarios to boost problem-solving abilities.

The Importance of Certificatione

Michael also looked back on the days when Cisco certifications from authorised providers such as DDLS were necessary. Individuals without the proper certifications were frequently viewed as unqualified, underscoring the clear gap between certified professionals and those who falsely claimed to comprehend the systems. This principle holds true today, especially in the software field. Certifications from reputable institutions like Microsoft are more valuable than self-proclaimed credentials from less reputable sources.

The Rapid Evolution of AI Tools

Michael acknowledged the importance of regular updates because of the fast progress of new AI tools, especially in sales and marketing. The large number of emerging tools can be overwhelming, making it extremely difficult to keep courses up to date without constant revisions.

When it comes to addressing this challenge, Michael has shared their approach towards ChatGPT courses. Initially, they intend to develop and administer their course content until established content providers can keep up. Despite the potential costs involved, they strongly believe in the importance of offering material that is both relevant and up-to-date.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Work

The future looks bright for Michael as he anticipates remarkable growth in the digital skills sector. With a strong foothold in Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines, they are now aiming to expand their operations into Southeast Asia. This expansion will not only widen their market reach but also enhance their course offerings, ensuring efficient scheduling and logistics on an international scale.

In addition to digital skills, Michael emphasised the importance of soft skills in the future of work. As automation and AI continue to advance, human skills such as negotiation and plain language communication become crucial.

A Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Michael reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to improving both digital and soft skills training. Despite the challenges, he remains hopeful about the future and actively pursues new opportunities for growth and self-improvement. Michael’s perspective sheds light on the dynamic nature of training and development, emphasising the need to continuously adapt our learning methods to stay relevant in an ever-evolving landscape.
